From the third album(1971...multi nu v-ati nascut inca...HAAA!)"MASTER OF REALITY",Into the Void and let me see some fuckin'hands in the air ,I caaan't fuckin' heeear you....c'mon now ,heeeeyyyy you're not crazy enough for meee!Let me see your hands up in the air....!Let's go crazyyyyyyy!!!

Alright now,

"Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the night sky they blast,
Through the universe the engines whine
Could it be the end of man and time?
Back on earth the flame of life burns low
Everywhere is misery and woe,
Pollution kills the air,the land and sea,
Man prepares to meet his destiny,Yeah.

Rocket engines burning fuel so fast
Up into the black sky so vast,
Burning metal through the atmosphere,
Earth remains in worry, hate and fear,
With the hateful battles raging on
Rockets flying to the glowing sun,
Through the empires of eternal void
Freedom from the final suicide.

Freedom fighters sent out to the sun
Escape from brainwashed minds and pollution,
Leave the earth to all its sin and hate
Find another world where freedom waits,Yeah.

Past the stars in fields of ancient void
Through the shields of darkness where they find,
Love upon a land, a world unknown
Where the sons of freedom make their home,
Leave the earth to Satan and his slaves,
Leave them to the future in their grave,
Make a home where love is there to stay,
Peace and Happiness in everyday,Yeah"

A very sad day for Ilford, as the UK-based supplier of traditional photographic materials has been forced to go into adminstration. The entire business could now be sold as a going concern by the appointed adminstrator, Grant Thornton.

Grant Thornton said: "Although growth and profitability in its digital inkjet business has continued to accelerate, the decline in the black and white photography market, in which Ilford Imaging has a major share, has continued. This, combined with the weakness of the dollar and major de-stocking, has led to losses."

Ilford's inkjet digital business, which is based in Switzerland, has been unaffected and will continue to trade normally. Ilford Imaging was founded in 1879 and is the world's leading supplier of dyes for inkjet photo printers and is the second-largest manufacturer of inkjet photo paper.

So potentially another loss for the film market, after the announcement last week that Agfa were withdrawing from the photography business.

Pentru a nu va mai obosi cu cautatul l-am copiat aici:

Hi, I am an instructor at a Fine Art College in FL in the Photography & Digital Imaging dept. and parents want to know how their childern (students) will make a living after they graduate. I am researching that question and would appreciate any help you have. Are their websites that will sell your images to catalog companies or to stores like Walmart (example) and how would you go about pricing your work wholesale?

Seeing as how this thread has just been "observed" but no one responded, let me offer you my observations. First of all, I am not a professional. I used to be, but not with Fine Art prints, with Weddings and Commercial work.

Now, I figure folks here fall into one of two camps...

1) They really aren't able to survive on selling their artistic images alone and do other things like commercial assignments, photojournalism assignments, and photo seminars to suppliment their income.

2) They really do make a bundle on selling their photos and don't relish revealing their hard earned marketing wisdom to competition in a very small marketplace.

Very few can survive on Fine Art photography. Very Few. Those that do are simultaneously artistic masters and superb business people.

You will probably hate me for saying this, but, anyone entering college for a Fine Arts degree with an attitude of getting wealthy is woefully misinformed. There isn't anything about that curriculum that teaches you how to make it in the real world. On the other hand, you could use the degree to become a truly good photographer, but you are still left on your own for capitalizing on that asset.

I would guess that's not what you want to tell the parents.

Next week, look for the first of our articles based on the reader's survey about the Best & Worst Magazines to shoot for, published in our September issue. In the first of these articles (available only online), we'll look at which magazines you rated are the best and worst in terms of rates, speed of payment, rights negotiation, use of photography and other criteria.

Also next week, we'll have more thoughtful advice from Bill Robbins on our Ask the Experts forum. We won't be posting Newswire next week, while our news editor heads to Perpignan for Visa Pour L'Image, but Newswire will return after Labor Day. Bonnes vacances!

HP Declare British National Photo Album a Success
HP Press Release 01/09/04

Britain's first National Photo Album unearths hidden photographic treasures

HP is pleased to announce the initial success of the National Photo Album, one of the most ambitious public archiving projects in recent history. Having urged the nation to dust off its old photograph albums and rummage through its attics, HP has been astonished to see people react so positively.

With over 5,000 images already submitted and more than 300,000 hits in the first two months, The National Photo Album has been embraced by the public. The search has uncovered some hidden gems from the photo albums of members of the public, such as:

- The enchanting image of Big Ben taken during the strikes in the 1970s, when fuel was at a premium and the spot lights had to be switched off
- A chance meeting with George Best relaxing on holiday in Majorca in 1972
- Young twins working a wooden washing machine in 1939
- A boxing match between sailors, to entertain the troops on HMS Emperor of India in 1915

"We expected a good response, but I don't think we ever imagined that people would react in such a positive manner. The HP National Photo Album is quickly turning into the vital photographic resource we always hoped it would. And there's no doubt that The Daily Mirror has contributed enormously to our success as we supplied its 'Pic of the Week' for almost two months," said Peter Urey, marketing and category manager for HP's Imaging and Printing Group. "No one else is providing a photographic resource which contains pictures solely taken by everyday people and we believed that this difference would offer a 'back stage pass' to our history, now we know for sure that it does."

The aim of The National Photo Album was to search for images of individuals, families, workplaces, events, outings, cities, towns and villages, all accompanied with the story behind each picture; anything which revealed something of the way Britain has worked, played, lived and loved over the past two hundred years. The results have been fascinating with a hugely varied collection of pictures and stories.

"The HP National Photo Album is an excellent incentive to keep British History alive," said one of the National Photo Album's visitors. "It's always great to be able to see other people's pictures of years, events and times gone by and I'm certain that as the word spreads, it will be a much visited site."

"We were hoping for pictures which would immediately provoke attention such as pictures of Elvis Presley's only visit to the UK, but what we have found is that we have received a far more interesting selection of stories," added Urey. "When you read a story about a 10 year old boy, with numerous siblings who was the only bread winner in his family, you realise the importance of these pictures as historical materials."

The HP National Photo Album is free to access at Anyone wanting to contribute to the archive can offer their pictures for consideration in one of two ways.

- Option 1: Upload images directly onto the archive at by following simple step by step instructions.
- Option 2: Submit entries via post to HP National Photo Album, 31 St. Petersburgh Place, London W2 4LA where they will be vetted and uploaded by experts.

*All images must be accompanied by a suitably sized self-addressed envelope. Every effort will be made to return the images in good order but HP cannot be held liable for damaged or lost photographs.

HP has a unique history and expertise in digital imaging. Currently it is assisting museums and art galleries around the world including the UK's National Gallery, in digitising their collections to ensure that the world's most important images are captured for posterity. Now it is turning its attention to the treasure trove of photographs that lie gathering dust in the nation's attics.

By digitising and storing these valuable images HP is aiming to ensure that this valuable photographic inheritance is not lost and can be shared with millions of people. Suitable pictures will be added to the HP National Photo Album which will be a searchable online database of images that can be accessed and downloaded for free.

Martin, (premiul "Nebula" in 1979 si "Hugo" in 1980), film care a aparut in 1995, avandu-l pe Beau Bridges in rolul principal.
Iata un scurt comentariu despre acest film:
"SANDKINGS is one of the scariest pieces of sci-fi I've ever seen.
I rank it with original INVASION of the BODY SNATCHERS because it's literal,cut-no-slack, NIGHTMARE. Beau Bridges acting as Madder Max/March Hare scientist,Dr.Simon Kress is superb. The theme drips Freudian anti-myth,as Kress in defiance of God, Nature and the most ordinary paramters of human love and responsibility "cultivates" an alien race of INSECTS. [The Insects were initially brought to Earth in soil samples garnered on Mars by a Rover-like space vehicle.] Kress nurtures this anti-race in untrammeled will-to-Power when he realizes the BREED worships him. [Sand castles are made with ICON portraits of him worked into altar-like minnaret towers. When Kress/ exultant hubris...strides into the midst of the DisneySand experimental environment he has fashioned into Alien Eden, thousdands of the insects divide/ bow in obeisance doing him homage as GOD.] Ritual war; sacrifice and finally cannibalistic murder follows as Kress renounces attachment to family, friends and humanity.
Suspense builds into sheer terror. If the climax is a bit "predictable", the tale of terror getting there isn't.
The(revived)OUTER LIMITS used "Sandkings" as premier offering. Director Stuart Gillard, and sriptwriter Melinda Snodgrass have done magnificent jobs rendering George Martin's PM sci-fi shocker.Forget what the movie may lack compared with its literary progenitor.THE SANDKINGS'TV-movie stepchild is masterpiece of blood; cold sweat; and FEAR... If you can't live without me, why aren't you dead already?

You'd make a lovely corpse!

I never forget a face, but in your case I'll make an exception.

Why do you sit there looking like an envelope without any address on it?

Did you eat a brain tumor for breakfast?

You love nature in spite of what it did to you?

Dearest creature in creation,
Study English pronunciation.
I will teach you in my verse
Sounds like corpse, corps, horse, and worse.
I will keep you, Suzy, busy,
Make your head with heat grow dizzy.
Tear in eye, your dress will tear.
So shall I! Oh hear my prayer.
Just compare heart, beard, and heard,
Dies and diet, lord and word,
Sword and sward, retain and Britain.
(Mind the latter, how it's written.)
Now I surely will not plague you
With such words as plaque and ague.
But be careful how you speak:
Say break and steak, but bleak and streak; Cloven, oven, how and low,
Script, receipt, show, poem, and toe.
Hear me say, devoid of trickery,
Daughter, laughter, and Terpsichore,
Typhoid, measles, topsails, aisles,
Exiles, similes, and reviles;
Scholar, vicar, and cigar,
Solar, mica, war and far;
One, anemone, Balmoral,
Kitchen, lichen, laundry, laurel;
Gertrude, German, wind and mind,
Scene, Melpomene, mankind.
Billet does not rhyme with ballet,
Bouquet, wallet, mallet, chalet.
Blood and flood are not like food,
Nor is mould like should and would.
Viscous, viscount, load and broad,
Toward, to forward, to reward.
And your pronunciation's OK
When you correctly say croquet,
Rounded, wounded, grieve and sieve,
Friend and fiend, alive and live.
Ivy, privy, famous; clamour
And enamour rhyme with hammer.
River, rival, tomb, bomb, comb,
Doll and roll and some and home.
Stranger does not rhyme with anger,
Neither does devour with clangour.
Souls but foul, haunt but aunt,
Font, front, wont, want, grand, and grant, Shoes, goes, does.
Now first say finger, And then singer, ginger, linger, Real, zeal, mauve, gauze, gouge and gauge, Marriage, foliage, mirage, and age.
Query does not rhyme with very,
Nor does fury sound like bury.
Dost, lost, post and doth, cloth, loth.
Job, nob, bosom, transom, oath.
Though the differences seem little,
We say actual but victual.
Refer does not rhyme with deafer.
Foeffer does, and zephyr, heifer.
Mint, pint, senate and sedate;
Dull, bull, and George ate late.
Scenic, Arabic, Pacific,
Science, conscience, scientific.
Liberty, library, heave and heaven,
Rachel, ache, moustache, eleven.
We say hallowed, but allowed,
People, leopard, towed, but vowed.
Mark the differences, moreover,
Between mover, cover, clover;
Leeches, breeches, wise, precise,
Chalice, but police and lice;
Camel, constable, unstable,
Principle, disciple, label.
Petal, panel, and canal,
Wait, surprise, plait, promise, pal.
Worm and storm, chaise, chaos, chair,
Senator, spectator, mayor.
Tour, but our and succour, four.
Gas, alas, and Arkansas.
Sea, idea, Korea, area,
Psalm, Maria, but malaria.
Youth, south, southern, cleanse and clean. Doctrine, turpentine, marine.
Compare alien with Italian,
Dandelion and battalion.
Sally with ally, yea, ye,
Eye, I, ay, aye, whey, and key.
Say aver, but ever, fever,
Neither, leisure, skein, deceiver.
Heron, granary, canary.
Crevice and device and aerie.
Face, but preface, not efface.
Phlegm, phlegmatic, ass, glass, bass.
Large, but target, gin, give, verging,
Ought, out, joust and scour, scourging.
Ear, but earn and wear and tear
Do not rhyme with here but ere.
Seven is right, but so is even,
Hyphen, roughen, nephew Stephen,
Monkey, donkey, Turk and jerk,
Ask, grasp, wasp, and cork and work.
Pronunciation -- think of Psyche!
Is a paling stout and spikey?
Won't it make you lose your wits,
Writing groats and saying grits?
It's a dark abyss or tunnel:
Strewn with stones, stowed, solace, gunwale, Islington and Isle of Wight,
Housewife, verdict and indict.
Finally, which rhymes with enough --
Though, through, plough, or dough, or cough? Hiccough has the sound of cup.
My advice is to give up!!!

Poate vrea cineva sa cistige bani din fotografie... - de Dinu Lazar la: 12/09/2004 00:04:31
(la: O conversatie cu DINU LAZAR, fotograf)
Just a quick update about the Photographers Direct website. It was recently relaunched on a new server which is much faster and more powerful. The search engine is at least 5 times faster, which is great news. We also have a great deal more space for hosting images, so all photographers' allocation of space is being doubled. For photographers who have rented space, this space has been doubled (at no extra charge!).

We are also now rewarding photographers for high quality images. When images are uploaded they are rated (based on composition, colour, lighting, sharpness, subject matter, interest, technical skill, originality and quality of the low res scan) with 9 being the highest rating. Images rated at 9 will earn an extra 500k of space, images rated at 8 earn 250k of space and images rated at 7 earn 50k of space. As the average image takes up about 50k of space, photographers with good images will earn plenty of space to upload more images. Please log in to your account as you will find you have more space than you did before.

While the email requests are generating good fees now (Request 1959: Catholic calendar, over 2000 dollars of sales so far, Request 1982: New England Feature set, 1500 pounds), the number of images being bought direct from searches of the online database is also increasing steadily - here are some recent examples:

350 dollars:

200 pounds (360 dollars):

250 pounds (450 dollars):

200 pounds (360 dollars):

The way for photographers to increase sales through the website is to increase their selection of (good) images, and make sure they are well captioned and keyworded!

dar nu-i bai, de-acum tu vei fi Thomas O'Malley, O'Malley the alley cat :)))

Like they make at home
Or a healthy fish with the big backbone
I'm Abraham deLacy
Giuseppe Casey
Thomas O'Malley
O'Malley, the alley cat!

I've got that wanderlust
Gotta walk the scene
Gotta kick up highway dust
Feel the grass that's green
Gotta strut them city streets
Showin' off my eclat, yeah
Tellin' my friends of the social elite
Or some cute cat I happen to meet
I'm Abraham deLacy
Giuseppe Casey
Thomas O'Malley
O'Malley, the alley cat!

I'm king of the highway
Prince of the boulevard
Duke of avant garde
The world is my backyard
So if you're goin' my way
That's the road you wanna seek
Calcutta to Rome or
Home-sweet-home in Paris
Magnifique, you all

I only got myself
And this big old world
When I sip that cup of life
With my fingers curled
I don't worry what road to take

An Invitation to Photographers creating Digital Images to Participate in an Online Questionnaire Survey on the Record Keeping Practices of Photographers using Digital Technology.

Participants will assist the artistic and archival community in understanding the longterm preservation needs of digital images by answering questions related to routine work habits, software and hardware choices and storage options. The survey is part of a larger project titled InterPARES which is a multidisciplinary project headed by the University of British Columbia, that investigates issues surrounding the continuing reliability, accuracy, authenticity, accessibility and the long-term preservation of digital entities produced in the course of artistic, scientific and e-government activities because of technological frailty, incompatibility and obsolescence.

The multiple choice Questionnaire is accessible online, and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Your participation will contribute to a greater understanding of the complex needs associated with creating, storing and retrieving digital images. Additionally the information will assist Archives obtaining these digital images twenty years from now.

To start the survey,  go to , and using the login: 'digital' and the password: 'photography' (no quotes), log into the survey site.  All responses are anonymous.  If you have any questions, please contact me at

U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr., Chairman _____________________________________ News Advisory For immediate release Contact: Jeff Lungren/Terry Shawn September 21, 2004 202-225-2492 House Approves Video Voyeurism Legislation Offenses Punishable by up to $100,000 Fine and 1 Year Imprisonment WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House today approved by voice vote legislation
imposing civil and criminal penalties for those surreptitiously photographing or videotaping a person naked or partially naked on federal lands. The Senate passed S. 1301 in July and it now goes to President Bush for his signature. House Judiciary Committee Chairman F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr. (R-Wis,) said “With the development of smaller cameras and the instantaneous distribution capability of the Internet, the issue of ‘video voyeurism’ is a huge privacy concern. Unsuspecting adults, as well as high school students and children have been targeted in school locker rooms, department store dressing rooms, and even in their homes.” “Many states have since passed laws to target video voyeurism to protect those in private areas, but there are fewer protections for those who may be photographed in compromising positions in public places. S. 1301 makes the act of ‘video voyeurism’ illegal on Federal land such as national parks or Federal buildings, using the well-accepted legal concept that individuals are entitled to a reasonable expectation of privacy. It also serves as model legislation for states that have not yet enacted their own laws or need to update existing laws to account for the rapid spread of camera technology.
This crime would be punishable by a fine of not more than $100,000 or imprisonment for up to 1 year, or both,” added Chairman Sensenbrenner. S. 1301 was introduced by Sen. Mike DeWine (R-Ohio) and spearheaded by Rep.
Mike Oxley (R-Ohio) and others in the House.

"We urge you, after consulting with Congress, and consistent with the U.S. Constitution and laws, to take necessary actions (including, if
appropriate, air and missile strikes on suspect Iraqi sites) to respond
effectively to the threat posed by Iraq's refusal to end its weapons
of mass destruction programs." Letter to President Clinton, signed by Sens. Carl Levin (D-MI), Tom Daschle (D-SD), John Kerry( D - MA), and others Oct. 9,1998.

"I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force if necessary to disarm Saddam Hussein because I believe that a deadly arsenal of weapons of mass destruction in his hands is a real and grave threat to our security." - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Oct. 9,2002

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a
particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction . So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real" - Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003

Oh, the wonder of it all, now that Bush has done just what Kerry said should be done, he changes his stand.

Kerry's slogan "I am for everything, I am against everything, that leaves no room for argument!"

The things that come to those who wait are what's left behind by those
who got there first.

How far "off" are on-camera flash units when it comes to creating accurate exposures?  Which flashes work best?  Is AUTO really better than TTL?  What about eTTL, dTTL, iTLL?  Get the facts and be smart about which flashes to buy, and which to avoid.
