- please capture a wide variety of shots, including different versions of the same type of shot. The images are for a brochure for the travel agency about the private train ride available, so all images should include the passengers. There are 100 passengers total but you don't need to photograph all of them, just focus on the people that look good, are not too old, are well dresses and photographic. Also to show how the Program Directors (there should be at least 3) help and guide the passengers through the day. No close-ups of the passengers unless you can tell that they're on the train or touring in Constanta
Photos need to be light and bright in quality. Try to avoid dark deep shades whenever possible. Sharp and deep depth of field images. They do not like blurry or soft looking photos. People in general should appear happy and pleasant.
Clients arriving at private railway station (Bucharest-Baneasa railway station)
Exterior shoots of the train - long and medium angles in relationship the station
Clients boarding the train - long and medium angles
PD's assisting clients throughout the day
Conductor or train personal helping the clients
Interiors of the train w/clients enjoying their ride, socializing,etc.
Interior - cafe car with pax and crew
Interior - PDs talking with pax (may have to set this up)
Arrival - Pax getting off train, exterior of train in station, etc.
In Constanta - general shots of pax taking city tour and scenics of the city, pax walking along the boardwalk and after or before their lunch walking on the black sea.
When returning look for the same type of shots as described above.

The Getty Images Money Machine
``````````````````````````````````````````````
The popular daily newspaper, USA Today, recently published a copyrighted article (by Byron Acohido) about the top stock photography agency in the world, Getty Images. Although the article focused on tracing Getty's successful rise to the top of the industry, it revealed some interesting numbers. Especially if you are considering working for the company as a freelancer.
First of all, let me reiterate my personal philosophy that I believe good
stock photography is the result of a photographer's (amateur or pro) abiding interest in specific subject areas. For example, wildlife, medicine,
education, children, aviation, sports, and so on. The resulting photographs have the opportunity to be both art and documentary. Eventually they may have historical significance and grow as an asset for a photographer's heirs. In the meantime, if the photographer finds matching markets for his or her interest areas, profits can be made.
If this is your worldview also, then you'll want to turn and run if a Getty recruiter asks you to be part of their freelancer team. Here's why.
I don't pretend to be an economics wizard, but in Pilgrim's Pride
Elementary School, I was pretty good at arithmetic. I think you'll agree
with me that the numbers presented in the USA Today article do not look pretty for freelancers.
They spin out like this.
The 2003 Getty Images gross revenue was $523.2 million, with net income of $64 million. (88% operating costs; 12% net profit). The author is quoted as saying 83% of Getty Images sales comes from freelancers. That's $434,256 ,000 in freelancer photos. Getty gives 40% of that to the freelancers.
That's $173,702,400 .
Getty has 2,500 freelancers (contributors), according to the author. That's $69,480.96 annually to a freelancer, or $190.36 per day (365/yr.).
Running a stock photo business can get to be a marathon, and get to be
expensive. Using Getty Image's own costs/net income ratio (88/12), that
would reduce a freelancer's $69,480.96 gross down to $8,337.72 net annually, or $22.84 per day. But since freelancers are known to be frugal, and government RMA annual statement studies show entrepreneurs to be Spartan,
let's lower the cost percentage (to 76%), and double the net income figure to 24% and make it $45.68 per day, ($5.75 per hour for an 8-hour day).
PRODUCING THE COMMODITY
To produce images, most of your costs are going to be eaten up in camera equipment, travel costs, insurance, lodging and meals.
U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION MODIFIES PROCEDURES REGARDING ENTRY REQUIREMENTS OF FOREIGN JOURNALISTS WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Commissioner Robert C.
Bonner announced today that new guidance has been issued to all CBP Port Directors regarding discretionary authority to permit travel for foreign journalists who attempt to enter the U.S. with the wrong visa, while reminding those foreign journalists that they should be aware of immigration policies before they depart for the United States.
Representatives of foreign press, radio, television, or other foreign information media have occasionally applied for admission to the United States as nonimmigrants with "B-1" business visas, or as business visitors under the Visa Waiver Program. The Immigration and Nationality Act does not allow them to enter in that manner. They are required to enter under an "I" visa that applies to working journalists.
"Customs and Border Protection's priority mission is keeping terrorists from entering this country.
We also enforce all laws, including immigration laws at our borders and ports of entry," said Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Bonner. "While we carry out our mission and enforce our laws, we realize there is a difference between fraud and failure to be informed of the legal requirements for entering the United States. That is why we are giving our Port Directors leeway when it comes to allowing journalists to enter the U.S. who are clearly no threat to our security,"
Commissioner Bonner concluded.
Under the new CBP policy, a Port Director may consider a one time discretionary authorization to enter the U.S. If that discretion is exercised, the journalist will be advised of the requirement to have a visa in the correct classification for any future trips to the U.S.
"We are an open society," said Commissioner Bonner, "and we want people to feel welcome here.
We want everyone to know the rules before they get here, visa requirements can be found on the U.S. Department of State web site at http://travel.state.gov/ireval.html or at http://travel.state.gov/visa;media.htm.
Re: Freelance Work
I’ve got some great news to share with you! I wanted to inform you of the upcoming launch of 7 Magazine (se7enMag,com) Sept 1st, 2004. HOW EXCITING!! I am writing you to express interest in your photography. I recently saw some of your work and I must confess, I was impressed and intrigued by your photos.
Let me briefly tell you about our magazine. 7 Magazine is a monthly national online publication that is expected to reach more than 100,000 readers across the country in the next few months alone. 7 Magazine features the latest trends in fashion, celebrities, music, art, health, technology, and travel.
Since we’re in the process of launching, we are looking for experienced photographers to submit their photo stories (anywhere from 6-12 photos will work). High resolution is not needed, since 7 Magazine is starting as an online magazine for the 1st year. I am essentially looking for shoots that have been shot already, that you want published. Although you will not be paid for your work, you can count on receiving plenty of exposure.
If you’re interested in this opportunity, please e-mail me. I look forward to working with you- and your contributions to this magazine. It’s going to be amazing! The ideas, and the concepts are super!! J
Sincerely,
Amanda Nelson
Din cate imi aduc eu aminte, turcimea a incercat sa-si croiasca drum prin valahii, in special prin Kara Iflak pentru a merge pe ruta transilvana spre inima Europei. Daca doresti o perioada, hai sa o amintim numai pe cea a lui Mircea cel Batran (supranumit si "Facatorul de Sultani" de unii istorici) pana la moartea lui Stefan cel Mare. Asta este perioada de impotrivire si de "necajire" a Imperiului Otoman. Aproximativ 1390-1550 a fost perioada care eu unul o aveam in vedere. De la 1550 pana la 1877 nu vad ce am fi putut face deoarece nu am mai avut probleme cu turcii pentru ca stabilisem contracte cu ei. Intradevar , plateam tributul dar nu eram pashalacuri. Este ceva ce te deranjeza la perioada pe care o vizez eu?
ummmm, nu. Leaving Las Vegas , American Beauty, Lost in Translation, Stanley Kubrik cu toate filmele lui... Coppola cu cateva si el.. la fel si Scorsese.
De partea franceza, Godard , Truffaut, Lelouche ( desi cam dulceag ), Ozon ( desi cam gay, mi-a placut Swimming pool, dar nu '5X2' ).. Nu , eu cred ca sunt cam la egalitate.
Dar nici francezii, nici americanii nu se compara cu italienii, polonezii sau rusii, care , dupa parerea mea, au cele mai bune scoli cinematografice. Mai nou asiaticii fac filme bune si ei. Unele exceptionale : King of masks( Tian-King Wu ), Spring, summer, fall winter and ... spring ( Kim Kiduk) , In the mood for love (Kar Wai Wong... whatever), Raise the red Lantern (Zhang Yimou), ca sa enumar doar cateva.
Intr-o viziune perfecta si absolut irealizabila, ar trebui ca 23 de milioane de oameni sa plece din tara pt. a fi fericiti? Parca ar fi frumos sa te gandesti ca peste 50 de ani copiii din tara asta se vor putea duce la o piscina publica asa cum se duc acum sa joace fotbal pe maidan. Si ar fi si mai frumos sa stii ca ai avut si tu o contributie, oricat de mica, la acest lucru. Sunt de acord cu cei care pleaca pt. cativa ani si se intorc cu bani pt. a realiza ceva.
Sa dau un exemplu: am fost in vara asta in state cu un program pt. studenti "work&travel". Si in timp ce lucram la restaurant (spalam vase) a venit managerul si mi-a spus ca in restaurant sunt 2 romani care ar vrea sa ma vada. M-am dus si am stat de vb. 10min. cu ei. Plecasera inainte de revolutie. Si imi dadeau zeci de motive si exemple pt. cat de bine este sa ramai. Dupa care m-au intrebat daca eu vreau sa raman. Le-am spus ca nu, pt. ca vreau sa fac ceva pt. tara mea. Cand le-am spus asta s-au simtit ofensati. De ce???? Dupa acest raspuns s-a terminat discutia noastra in 10 secunde. "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference"
Draga Daniela,
Cred ca esti pe drumul cel bun. Biblia este mai mult o istorie a omenirii. Religia a avut o importanta deosebita in educarea si propagarea moralitatii intr-o perioada istorica in care societatea umana nu avea legi sa se conduca si sa protejeze pe cei slabi (femei, copii).
Din nefericire, religiile au devenit un aparat politic de represiune. Deasemenea, diferentele mari dintre religiile de baza (musulmana, crestina si budista) i-a facut pe oameni sa se indoiasca de adevarul lor.
Interventia religiei in politica si transformarea religiei in aparat de reresiune. I-a indepartat pe oameni. Slogane ca: "Crede si nu cerceta", "Crezi inrtu-totul sau deloc", "Daca nu crezi vei fi pedepsit", etc... ne-a facut sa devenim scheptici.
Personal, nu cred an teoria Evolutionista a lui Darwin. Pentru ca explicatiile pe care le da sint "trase de par". Dar imi vine greu sa cred si in cea creationista.
"Dumnezeu l-a facut pe Adam din lut, a suflat peste el si i-a dat viata!" OK, a face o statuie din lut nu-i mare lucru. Dar sa-i dai viata cu toate organele si cu toate functiile fiziologice?!... Este mai greu. Si apoi aceasta creatura incepuse sa se plictiseasca (deci ajunsese la nivelul de a avea constiinta...) asa ca Dumnezeu i-a rupt una din coaste si a facut-o pe Eva... Well, well, well... De ce atrebuit sa-i rupa una din coaste cind putea face inca o statuie din lut si sa-i dea viata. Nu cumva ne referim la o forma primitiva de "cloning". Adica Dumnezeu a luat ADN de la Adam si a facut-o pe Eva. Poate de la asta se inspira savantii, la vremea actuala cind produc cloni?!... Posibil!
In anii 1960, in Peru a fost descoperit un "Manuscris" care se pare ca avea informatii despre aparitia vietii pe Pamint, asa incit Vaticanul a cheltuit mai mult de US$2 billioane si a assasinat peste 600 de persoane ca sa puna mina pe acest Manuscris, sa-l faca disparut si sa-i faca disparuti pe toti cei care au avut cunostinta de el s-au l-au citit. Bineinteles ca nu a reusit sa-i faca disparuti pe toti....
Unul dintre cei mai mari filosofi Agnostici, si maestru de Astral Travel (Meditatie Transcedentara) - Lobsang Rampa - un Tibetan care traieste in Anglia - a fost anatemat si cartile lui au fost interzise in multe tari, prin interventia directa a Vaticanului.
Daca nu era ceva adevarat in acel Manuscris descoperit in Peru si daca teoriile lui Rampa au fost gresite?!... Ce avea Vaticanul a se teme?
Intrebari la fel de greu de raspuns cum este si intrebare:"Creatie sau Evolutie". Poate adevarul este undeva la mijloc. Pina cind vom afla adevarul, daca il vom afla vreaodata, vorba lui Nicu Constantin: "Trebuie sa ne punem bine si cu Raiul si cu Iadul".
All the best,
Alex
(la: Evolutionism vs Creationism. Dar Panspermia?)
"Slogane ca: "Crede si nu cerceta", "Crezi intru-totul sau deloc", "Daca nu crezi vei fi pedepsit", etc... ne-a facut sa devenim sceptici."
- Ca fapt divers: nici unul din "sloganele" de mai sus nu apar in Biblie...
"Personal, nu cred an teoria Evolutionista a lui Darwin. Pentru ca explicatiile pe care le da sint "trase de par". Dar imi vine greu sa cred si in cea creationista.
"Dumnezeu l-a facut pe Adam din lut, a suflat peste el si i-a dat viata!" OK, a face o statuie din lut nu-i mare lucru."
- In care versiune a Bibliei ai citit chestia cu "statuia" de lut?...
(DE CE trupul lui Adam n-ar fi putut - la fel de bine - fi "sintetizat" din elemente chimice aflate in "tarina pamintului" - apa, fier, calciu, magneziu, etc. - direct intr-un trup din materie organica, cu tesuturi si organe gata diferentiate, urmind doar sa fie animat... devenind astfel un "suflet viu"?...).
"Dar sa-i dai viata cu toate organele si cu toate functiile fiziologice?!... Este mai greu."
- Poate... in cazul in care insistam sa ni-l reprezentam pe Dumnezeu ca pe "un mosnegel cu barba sura, cu aripi de pelican si cu un 'cerc' deasupra capului"... (care, eventual, face ochi mari... si da din umeri... cind ii aude pe... savanti... vorbind de "inginerie genetica", "clonaj", "mutatii" si alte asemenea chestii... "nemaiauzite" de el...)...
"Si apoi aceasta creatura incepuse sa se plictiseasca... asa ca Dumnezeu i-a rupt una din coaste si a facut-o pe Eva..."
- Ce te face sa crezi ca plictiseala ar fi putut fi singura motivatie care sa-l fi determinat pe Dumnezeu sa-i "rupa" o coasta lui Adam ca s-o faca pe Eva?...
"Well, well, well... De ce a trebuit sa-i rupa una din coaste cind putea face inca o statuie din lut si sa-i dea viata."
- Pentru a crea o legatura afectiva mai intensa intre cei doi soti... legatura bazata pe sentimentul de apartenenta fizica reciproca. (Exclamatia lui Adam la vederea Evei: "Iata in sfirsit aceea care este os din oasele mele si carne din carnea mea!" Geneza 2.23).
"Nu cumva ne referim la o forma primitiva de 'cloning'. Adica Dumnezeu a luat ADN de la Adam si a facut-o pe Eva. Poate de la asta se inspira savantii, la vremea actuala cind produc cloni?!... Posibil!"
- Foarte posibil!
"In anii 1960, in Peru a fost descoperit un "Manuscris" care se pare ca avea informatii despre aparitia vietii pe Pamint, asa incit Vaticanul a cheltuit mai mult de US$2 billioane si a assasinat peste 600 de persoane ca sa puna mina pe acest Manuscris, sa-l faca disparut si sa-i faca disparuti pe toti cei care au avut cunostinta de el s-au l-au citit."
- Unde ai citit chestia de mai sus?...
"Unul dintre cei mai mari filosofi Agnostici, si maestru de Astral Travel (Meditatie Transcedentala) - Lobsang Rampa - un Tibetan care traieste in Anglia - a fost anatemat si cartile lui au fost interzise in multe tari, prin interventia directa a Vaticanului.
Daca nu era ceva adevarat in acel Manuscris descoperit in Peru si daca teoriile lui Rampa au fost gresite?!... Ce avea Vaticanul a se teme?"
- Este datoria si responsabilitatea morala a oricarei biserici sa-si protejeze enoriasii de ceea ce clerul respectivei biserici considera ca este erezie. In acelasi timp, fiecare individ care considera ca biserica al carei membru este, ii impune - lui sau altora - restrictii nejustificate, isi poate permite sa-si retraga calitatea de membru al zisei biserici.
