Though I was making a joke about Tunick being the "world's greatest
photographer". All joking aside however I do think he is a great
photographer, and I'll tell you why. Photography as you know is just a
tool that allows people to see many different things in a two
dimensional world, a world that despite being two dimensional still
enables us to experience the image on a high information level.

For me the genius of what Tunick does is showing the Homo-Sapien
species as group of animals without the usual protective barrier of
clothing in different and varied environments. Very interesting
environments at least for me. Buenos Aires, New York City, Antarctica,
Vienna, St. Petersburg, etc. all juxtaposed with a single naked human
form or in huge naked groups. It is strangely interesting because it is
something we would never see otherwise especially the groups. In that
sense it is art because it allows us to see something very unique and
thought provoking on the nature of being human.

Some people could say anyone with a camera could take a picture of a
naked person outdoors, and they would be right, however let them try
and go through the effort to organize the large groups of people and
get the permission of international city governments as Tunick
succeeded in doing. So for me Tunick is far from being an "idiot" or a
"groggy man". For me he is a genuine artist with a nice sense of humor who is exploring the human form in an interesting way through the use of photography.

Si Bruce continua:

Sometimes the technique is secondary to the concept, sometimes the technique is the concept. What I've found refreshing with Tunick's photography is his relative lack of obvious technique, the almost snapshot like quality of his pictures, as if he just showed up accidently with a Ricoh G1 loaded with color negative film and just snapped a shot of this strangeness before him.
This is what gives it power, the utter banality of technique.

Photographer Helmut Newton Killed in Crash

LOS ANGELES - Acclaimed fashion photographer Helmut Newton died Friday after his car sped out of control from the driveway of the famed Chateau Marmont hotel and crashed into a wall, police said. He was 83.

Newton, whose work appeared in magazines such as Playboy, Elle and Vogue, was best known for his stark, black-and-white nude photos of women.

Newton apparently lost control of his Cadillac while leaving the Hollywood hotel, said Officer April Harding, a police spokeswoman. It was unclear whether he became ill while driving.

People were on the sidewalk in front of the driveway, and the car brushed a photographer heading into the hotel before crashing into the wall.

Newton was taken by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died a short time later, Harding said.

Newton was a trailblazer in the fashion photography world, exploring power, gender roles and an icy sexuality in his pictures.

His trademark "Big Nudes" series featured larger-than-life, black-and-white images of women that portray them as dominating the camera rather than as subjects.

Among the beautiful and powerful people Newton has photographed were Paloma Picasso, Pierre Cardin, Naomi Campbell, Jean-Marie Le Pen and Claudia Schiffer.

While Newton also photographed clothed celebrities and nature scenes, he favored photographing women, usually while they wore little more than high heels.

"He was a giant," said Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. "He was a major talent that pushed the boundaries in terms of photography and influenced many, many other photographers in following generations."

The German-born photographer said in his 2002 autobiography that when he was 15, he told his father he wanted to be a photographer. The Berlin factory owner told him, "My boy, you'll end up in the gutter. All you think of is girls and photos."

Newton, who was Jewish, fled his homeland for Singapore in December 1938, a month after Nazi-led persecution programs began. He eventually settled in Australia and became a citizen, opening a small photography studio and changing his last name to Newton from Neustaedter.

He later took up residence in Monte Carlo, overlooking the Mediterranean — a frequent backdrop for his nude images.

In the prologue to his autobiography, he said his fascination with women dated back to when he was a toddler and recalled seeing his nurse "getting ready to go out, and she is half-naked" in front of a mirror. He described it as a defining moment in his life.

In October, he donated more than 1,000 pictures to a new gallery in Berlin, saying he was proud his work would now be on display in his hometown.

Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder called Newton's decision a "sign of reconciliation."

"You can chase a man out of his home but you can't rip his home out of his soul," Schroeder said in a letter read at the news conference announcing the donation.

Newton's coldly erotic imagery often alarmed feminists as well as those with tamer sensibilities.

A hosiery ad he shot, featured on a giant billboard in Times Square for a time, was banned from the side of New York City buses in 1998 because it was deemed to be too racy. It showed a rear-end view of a woman lying face-down, wearing only a pair of stockings. A side view of her bare breast also was visible.

Newton is survived by his wife, June, who works under the name Alice Springs. She was also a favorite subject for the photographer. In one 1973 series of photos, she was portrayed as Hitler wearing a cropped mustache, with model Jerry Hall posing as Eva Braun. The Newtons had no children.

Although the article focused on tracing Getty's successful rise to the top of the industry, it revealed some interesting numbers. Especially if you are considering working for the company as a freelancer.
First of all, let me reiterate my personal philosophy that I believe good
stock photography is the result of a photographer's (amateur or pro) abiding interest in specific subject areas. For example, wildlife, medicine,
education, children, aviation, sports, and so on. The resulting photographs have the opportunity to be both art and documentary. Eventually they may have historical significance and grow as an asset for a photographer's heirs. In the meantime, if the photographer finds matching markets for his or her interest areas, profits can be made.
If this is your worldview also, then you'll want to turn and run if a Getty recruiter asks you to be part of their freelancer team. Here's why.

with me that the numbers presented in the USA Today article do not look pretty for freelancers.

Getty has 2,500 freelancers (contributors), according to the author. That's $69,480.96 annually to a freelancer, or $190.36 per day (365/yr.).
Running a stock photo business can get to be a marathon, and get to be
expensive. Using Getty Image's own costs/net income ratio (88/12), that
would reduce a freelancer's $69,480.96 gross down to $8,337.72 net annually, or $22.84 per day. But since freelancers are known to be frugal, and government RMA annual statement studies show entrepreneurs to be Spartan,
let's lower the cost percentage (to 76%), and double the net income figure to 24% and make it $45.68 per day, ($5.75 per hour for an 8-hour day).
PRODUCING THE COMMODITY
To produce images, most of your costs are going to be eaten up in camera equipment, travel costs, insurance, lodging and meals.

Am 48 ani,caut intelepciunea,poate uneori sunt mai matur,dar de cele mai
multe ori sunt copil,I'll Be forever un teenager.Chiar si la 70 ani,daca apuc acea varsta,depinde cum imi e scris de soarta.

Nu am nevoie sa caut in dictionare ce inseamna un Brave Warrior.
Tu gandeste la mine cel care sunt azi de 16 ani incoace,ceea ce am scris despre trecutul meu inainte este o alta persoana,ce nu se gasise inca.

Si ca sa-ti spun ce inseamna un Brave Warrior,eu nu te cunosc,dar iti cunosc sufletul si te iubesc mult ,esti sora mea,mi-as da viata pt. tine de ai fi in primejdie,fara sa ma gandesc la moarte.Oare nu ai considera asta un act de bravura?

In Romania am fost odata cu 2-3 ani inainte de a veni aici,ridicat de securitate la 3 dimineata intr-o joi.
Am vazut parintii mei plangand si personal mi-am zis ca viata mea e terminata.Am luptat pt. drepturile omului nu doar pt. mine dar pt. toti si am scris scrisori de protest impotriva lui Ceausescu,atat in Romania dar am reusit sa trimit cateva si aici in America,si in Germania si Franta unde aveam prieteni si cunoscuti plecati.
Au ajuns la diversi senatori si reprezentanti americani in congres,au ajuns si la Jimmy Carter,pe atunci presedinte.
Crezi ca aceste acte nu reprezinta pe un Brave Warrior?

Am fost dus cu duba la sediul militiei de sector,am avut senzatia ca nu voi mai vedea soarele rasarind pt. mine dar nu am fost speriat si nu am plans si nici nu mi-am plecat capul in fata lor.
Dupa cateva ore m-au luat la bataie,nu ma loveau in fata....cica sa nu lase urme....dar ma loveau in ficat si rinichi de am lesinat.
M-au tinut treaz cu orele la interogatorii stupide,ma duceau inapoi in celula
si credeam ca pot sa stau un pic sa ma refac dar dupa 10 min sa zic asa,veneau si ma luau din nou si iar la bataie,de data asta cu bulanul la talpile goale si apoi imi spuneau ca e vremea sa fac exercitii de ...gimnastica si sa sar in sus....cadeam jos lesinat.
Alte dati dupa alte batai,capitanul spunea altora daca vor sa mearga la WC,si unii ziceau ca da,si atunci se pisau pe mine.

Mi s-a parut o eternitate acele 3 zile cat am stat acolo,umilit,scuipat in ochi si jignit,dar am stat mereu drept si nu am renuntat deloc la idealul meu de a fi liber.
Mi-au dat drumul pt. ca ambasada americane din Buc. ma avea pe o lista anume,sa fiu lasat sa plec in USA.
La acea vreme,Carter a dat Romaniei acea favoare de favorite nation si a cerut in schimb sa fie lasati in pace toti disidentii politici persecutati de regim.

La 3 ani dupa aceea mi s-a dat pasaportul,de persoana fara cetatenie romana,apatrid,doar America m-a primit.
Te intreb draga mea,oare exista in dictionare termenul de Brave Warrior in cazul meu?

Parintii mei mi-au zis sa-mi cer dosarul de la Securitate,dar nu vreau.
Vreau sa uit acel trecut,o rana in sufletul meu.Nu am putut vedea la tv acele poze si imagini cu tortura irakienilor pt. ca-mi aduce aminte de aceleasi lucruri prin care eu am trecut.

Sper sa ma intelegi acum,ma crezi cum doresti,daca nu sunt un Brave Warrior
poate e doar parerea ta,o respect.
Nu as fi vrut sa scriu astfel de amintiri,pt. a demonstra ceva despre mine,am considerat totusi ca ar trebui sa le cunosti,sunt doar in mic detaliu.
Si niciodata nu am facut parada cu ele,dar acum e bine sa le stii,maybe you'll give me a brake.
