Are the clinical effects of homoeopathy placebo effects? Comparative study of placebo-controlled trials of homoeopathy and allopathy.
Shang A, Huwiler-Muntener K,

Department of Social and Preventive Medicine, University of Berne, Berne, Switzerland.

BACKGROUND: Homoeopathy is widely used, but specific effects of homoeopathic remedies seem implausible. Bias in the conduct and reporting of trials is a possible explanation for positive findings of trials of both homoeopathy and conventional medicine. We analysed trials of homoeopathy and conventional medicine and estimated treatment effects in trials least likely to be affected by bias. METHODS: Placebo-controlled trials of homoeopathy were identified by a comprehensive literature search, which covered 19 electronic databases, reference lists of relevant papers, and contacts with experts. Trials in conventional medicine matched to homoeopathy trials for disorder and type of outcome were randomly selected from the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register (issue 1, 2003). Data were extracted in duplicate and outcomes coded so that odds ratios below 1 indicated benefit. Trials described as double-blind, with adequate randomisation, were assumed to be of higher methodological quality. Bias effects were examined in funnel plots and meta-regression models. FINDINGS: 110 homoeopathy trials and 110 matched conventional-medicine trials were analysed. The median study size was 65 participants (range ten to 1573). 21 homoeopathy trials (19%) and nine (8%) conventional-medicine trials were of higher quality. In both groups, smaller trials and those of lower quality showed more beneficial treatment effects than larger and higher-quality trials. When the analysis was restricted to large trials of higher quality, the odds ratio was 0.88 (95% CI 0.65-1.19) for homoeopathy (eight trials) and 0.58 (0.39-0.85) for conventional medicine (six trials). INTERPRETATION: Biases are present in placebo-controlled trials of both homoeopathy and conventional medicine. When account was taken for these biases in the analysis, there was weak evidence for a specific effect of homoeopathic remedies, but strong evidence for specific effects of conventional interventions. This finding is compatible with the notion that the clinical effects of homoeopathy are placebo effects.

Due to the climate of political correctness now pervading America:
Kentuckians, Tennessee and West Virginians will no longer be referred to as "HILLBILLIES." You must now refer to them as APPALACHIAN-AMERICANS.

And furthermore;

1. She is not a "BABE" or a "CHICK" - She is a "BREASTED AMERICAN."

2. She is not a "SCREAMER" or a "MOANER" - She is "VOCALLY

3. She is not "EASY" - She is "HORIZONTALLY ACCESSIBLE."

6. She is not an "AIRHEAD" - She is "REALITY IMPAIRED."

7. She does not get "DRUNK" or "TIPSY" - She gets "CHEMICALLY

8. She does not have "BREAST IMPLANTS" - She is "MEDICALLY ENHANCED.

9. She does not "NAG" you - She becomes "VERBALLY REPETITIVE."

10. She is not a "TRAMP" - She is "SEXUALLY EXTROVERTED."

12. She is not a "TWO-BIT HOOKER" - She is a "LOW COST PROVIDER."

1. He does not have a "BEER GUT" - He has developed a "LIQUEFIED GRAIN STORAGE FACILITY."

2. He is not a "BAD DANCER" - He is "OVERLY CAUCASIAN."

4. He is not "BALDING" - He is in "FOLLICLE REGRESSION."

7. He does not act like a "TOTAL ASS" - He develops a case of
"RECTAL-CRANIAL INVERSION." (We have a few of these!)

8. He is not a "MALE CHAUVINIST PIG" - He has "SWINE EMPATHY."

9. He is not afraid of "COMMITMENT" - He is "RELATIONSHIP CHALLENGED."

10. He is not "HORNY" - He is "SEXUALLY FOCUSED."

(la: Versuri din melodiile voastre preferate...)
I was born from the sound of the strings
For someone to give everything
To be a song just for your feeling

Close your eyes and I'll try to get in
To waken your heart like the sping
'Cause I was born to touch your feelings

Steal the time, take a song and be glad
Be free as the birds, don't be sad
Your time will come, I'll make you feel it
You're still young like the sun after rain
Follow the light it's not in vain
And you will see I'll touch your feelings

You've got your songs
They are everyday for awhile
Just the only way to feel all right
You've got your songs
They are everyday for awhile
Just the only way to feel all right

You were born just to lose or to win
To be someone's chime in the wind
To live between your mind and feelings
Find your way, check it out
Learn each day
Follow the light, it's not in vain
And you will see I'll touch your feelings

You've got your songs
They are everyday for awhile
Just the only way to feel all right
You've got your songs
They are everyday for awhile

George: I was asking myself the same question.

User: What on earth are you doing here George, instead of browsing the iNTERNET?

George: I'm not on earth.

User: Are you in space?

George: Nope. On earth. The blue planet. Are you team Jacob or team Edward?

User: Team building.

Istoria se bazeaza pe fapte si documente. - de Zamolxe la: 31/10/2003 20:34:47
Alien.

Jerusalem was besieged by the Romans in the spring of 70 C.E. and ruthlessly retaken during the summer, by which time the defenders had been reduced to civil war, starvation and (according to Josephus) even cannibalism. The religious fanatics made their last stand at the fortress they had taken first – Massada. When faced by inevitable defeat (73 C.E.) they met it with a defiant act of mass suicide. The terrible price the Jews paid for their revolt was the total destruction of their temple and the city in which it stood.

Evreii s-au stabilit in alte parti. Finally, in the 9th century, the leaders and the majority of the Khazar nobility came to be Jews. One likely possibility for how this happened is a conversion of the nobility. This is the official version of the situation, as told by the Khazar ruler Joseph in his famous letter to Hasdai ibn Shaprut of Spain.

Rezolutia in sine era favorabila evreilor care primeau casa, o tara. La o bere politica.

United Nations General Assembly Resolution 181 called for the partition of the British-ruled Palestine Mandate into a Jewish state and an Arab state. It was approved on November 29, 1947 with 33 votes in favor, 13 against, 10 abstentions and one absent (see list at end of document).
The resolution was accepted by the Jews in Palestine, yet rejected by the Arabs in Palestine and the Arab state.

Adopted at the 128th plenary meeting:
In favour: 33

Afghanistan, Cuba, Egypt, Greece, India, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, Yemen.
Abstained: 10
Argentina, Chile, China, Colombia, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Honduras, Mexico, United Kingdom, Yugoslavia.

Solutiile crizelor se regasesc in corecta intelegere a istoriei.

--after Lorca

Now in Vienna there's ten pretty women
There's a shoulder where Death comes to cry
There's a lobby with nine hundred windows
There's a tree where the doves go to die
There's a piece that was torn from the morning
And it hangs in the Gallery of Frost
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take this waltz with the clamp on its jaws

Oh I want you, I want you, I want you
On a chair with a dead magazine
In the cave at the tip of the lily
In some hallways where love's never been
On a bed where the moon has been sweating
In a cry filled with footsteps and sand
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take its broken waist in your hand

This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz
With its very own breath of brandy and Death
Dragging its tail in the sea

There's a concert hall in Vienna
Where your mouth had a thousand reviews
There's a bar where the boys have stopped talking
They've been sentenced to death by the blues
Ah, but who is it climbs to your picture
With a garland of freshly cut tears?
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take this waltz it's been dying for years

There's an attic where children are playing
Where I've got to lie down with you soon
In a dream of Hungarian lanterns
In the mist of some sweet afternoon
And I'll see what you've chained to your sorrow
All your sheep and your lilies of snow
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
With its "I'll never forget you, you know!"

This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz ...

And I'll dance with you in Vienna
I'll be wearing a river's disguise
The hyacinth wild on my shoulder,
My mouth on the dew of your thighs
And I'll bury my soul in a scrapbook,
With the photographs there, and the moss
And I'll yield to the flood of your beauty
My cheap violin and my cross
And you'll carry me down on your dancing
To the pools that you lift on your wrist
Oh my love, Oh my love
Take this waltz, take this waltz
It's yours now. It's all that there is."

(la: Ce este un gentleman? (o parere victoriana))
´´He (the gentleman) has too much good sense to be affronted at insults, he is too well employed to remember injuries, and too indolent to bear malice. He is patient, forbearing, and resigned, on philosophical principles; he submits to pain, because it is inevitable, to bereavement, because it is irreparable, and to death, because it is his destiny. If he engages in controversy of any kind, his disciplined intellect preserves him from the blunder. [From The Idea of a University, 1852]

Photographer Helmut Newton Killed in Crash

LOS ANGELES - Acclaimed fashion photographer Helmut Newton died Friday after his car sped out of control from the driveway of the famed Chateau Marmont hotel and crashed into a wall, police said. He was 83.

AP Photo

Newton, whose work appeared in magazines such as Playboy, Elle and Vogue, was best known for his stark, black-and-white nude photos of women.

Newton apparently lost control of his Cadillac while leaving the Hollywood hotel, said Officer April Harding, a police spokeswoman. It was unclear whether he became ill while driving.

People were on the sidewalk in front of the driveway, and the car brushed a photographer heading into the hotel before crashing into the wall.

Newton was taken by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died a short time later, Harding said.

Newton was a trailblazer in the fashion photography world, exploring power, gender roles and an icy sexuality in his pictures.

His trademark "Big Nudes" series featured larger-than-life, black-and-white images of women that portray them as dominating the camera rather than as subjects.

Among the beautiful and powerful people Newton has photographed were Paloma Picasso, Pierre Cardin, Naomi Campbell, Jean-Marie Le Pen and Claudia Schiffer.

While Newton also photographed clothed celebrities and nature scenes, he favored photographing women, usually while they wore little more than high heels.

"He was a giant," said Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. "He was a major talent that pushed the boundaries in terms of photography and influenced many, many other photographers in following generations."

The German-born photographer said in his 2002 autobiography that when he was 15, he told his father he wanted to be a photographer. The Berlin factory owner told him, "My boy, you'll end up in the gutter. All you think of is girls and photos."

Newton, who was Jewish, fled his homeland for Singapore in December 1938, a month after Nazi-led persecution programs began. He eventually settled in Australia and became a citizen, opening a small photography studio and changing his last name to Newton from Neustaedter.

He later took up residence in Monte Carlo, overlooking the Mediterranean — a frequent backdrop for his nude images.

In the prologue to his autobiography, he said his fascination with women dated back to when he was a toddler and recalled seeing his nurse "getting ready to go out, and she is half-naked" in front of a mirror. He described it as a defining moment in his life.

In October, he donated more than 1,000 pictures to a new gallery in Berlin, saying he was proud his work would now be on display in his hometown.

Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder called Newton's decision a "sign of reconciliation."

"You can chase a man out of his home but you can't rip his home out of his soul," Schroeder said in a letter read at the news conference announcing the donation.

Newton's coldly erotic imagery often alarmed feminists as well as those with tamer sensibilities.

A hosiery ad he shot, featured on a giant billboard in Times Square for a time, was banned from the side of New York City buses in 1998 because it was deemed to be too racy. It showed a rear-end view of a woman lying face-down, wearing only a pair of stockings. A side view of her bare breast also was visible.

Newton is survived by his wife, June, who works under the name Alice Springs. She was also a favorite subject for the photographer. In one 1973 series of photos, she was portrayed as Hitler wearing a cropped mustache, with model Jerry Hall posing as Eva Braun. The Newtons had no children.

- please capture a wide variety of shots, including different versions of the same type of shot. The images are for a brochure for the travel agency about the private train ride available, so all images should include the passengers. There are 100 passengers total but you don't need to photograph all of them, just focus on the people that look good, are not too old, are well dresses and photographic. Also to show how the Program Directors (there should be at least 3) help and guide the passengers through the day. No close-ups of the passengers unless you can tell that they're on the train or touring in Constanta
Photos need to be light and bright in quality. Try to avoid dark deep shades whenever possible. Sharp and deep depth of field images. They do not like blurry or soft looking photos. People in general should appear happy and pleasant.
Clients arriving at private railway station (Bucharest-Baneasa railway station)
Exterior shoots of the train - long and medium angles in relationship the station
Clients boarding the train - long and medium angles
PD's assisting clients throughout the day
Conductor or train personal helping the clients
Interiors of the train w/clients enjoying their ride, socializing, etc.
Interior - cafe car with pax and crew
Interior - PDs talking with pax (may have to set this up)
Arrival - Pax getting off train, exterior of train in station, etc.
In Constanta - general shots of pax taking city tour and scenics of the city, pax walking along the boardwalk and after or before their lunch walking on the black sea.
When returning look for the same type of shots as described above.

Sharon defends plan to evacuate Gaza settlements
Eds: UPDATES with Sharon backing for referendum, graf 4

Associated Press Writer
JERUSALEM (AP) - Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on Wednesday
defended his plan to dismantle virtually all Jewish
settlements in Gaza, amid new signs that the proposal is
threatening the stability of his government.
Ten lawmakers from the ruling Likud Party sent a letter to
Sharon threatening to abandon the prime minister if he
moves forward with his plans without their consent.
«We announce beforehand that it will be very difficult
for us to support this plan without the approval of the
Likud institutions on this sensitive subject,» the
lawmakers wrote. They added that they would not support the
entry of the opposition Labor Party into the government.
A senior official said Sharon would put his unilateral
disengagement plan - including removing some settlements
and imposing a boundary on the West Bank if peace talks
fail - before a national referendum, as demanded by Likud
lawmakers. The official, speaking on condition of
anonymity, said Sharon would welcome the idea of putting
the plan before the people, because the issue cuts across
ideological lines and «has overwhelming support among the
Labor said Tuesday that it would back Sharon's plan,
assuring him of a parliamentary majority even if two
ultranationalist parties quit the government.
But one of the lawmakers who signed Wednesday's letter,
Yuli Edelstein, claimed the group had enough support from
other Likud members to block any parliamentary majority for
Even if the effort fails, the letter reflected the
internal divisions that Sharon faces over his Gaza pullout
Sharon on Tuesday shrugged off the growing threats, saying
he is determined to go ahead with plans to remove 17
settlements in Gaza and three in the West Bank without
waiting for a peace deal with the Palestinians. He said he
would try to form a new governing coalition rather than
back down.
The prime minister's surprise announcement Monday has
divided Israelis into two camps: those who believe Sharon,
for decades the main architect of Jewish settlement
expansion, is truly changing course; and those who suspect
him of trying to sow confusion and deflect attention from a
widening corruption probe against him.
Sharon said Wednesday that his plan is not related to the
corruption probe, Israel radio reported. Speaking to
reporters at the Israeli parliament building, he said he
was moving forward in spite of his legal troubles, not
because of them.
Sharon, who has denied wrongdoing, is to be questioned by
police Thursday on suspicion he accepted bribes from an
Israeli real-estate developer.
Commentators said whatever Sharon's motives, his
declaration has created irreversible facts, and no future
prime minister could demand to hold on to parts of Gaza in
a peace deal with the Palestinians. «The words that were
uttered can never be taken back,» commentator Dan Margalit
wrote in the Maariv daily.
Opinion polls suggested that Sharon has broad public
support for dismantling most Gaza settlements, increasingly
seen by many Israelis as a security burden. Israel controls
one-third of the strip, while 1.3 million Palestinians
share the rest.
In his first public comment on the issue Tuesday, Sharon
avoided mention of Gaza but said he was determined to press
ahead with the removal of settlements.
«Not only is this difficult for the settlers, but also,
it is more painful for myself than anyone else in Israel,»
Sharon said during a visit of the coastal city of Ashkelon.
«But I've reached a decision and I am going to carry it
Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qureia told Palestinian
radio he wants to see «deeds, not words. We want to see
them leaving the whole Gaza Strip, leaving Gaza as
liberated Palestinian land and leaving us to concentrate on
their withdrawal from the West Bank.»
In the West Bank on Wednesday, the army said it had
arrested a senior operative in the militant Al Aqsa
Martyrs' Brigades in the village of Tubas. Palestinian
sources identified the man as Jihad Sawafta, who they said
had escaped an Israeli assassination attempt in 2002.
Senior aides to Sharon and Qureia were scheduled to meet
Wednesday in hopes of arranging a meeting between the two
prime ministers, the two sides confirmed. A summit would be
a crucial step in reviving the U.S.-backed «road map»
peace plan.
The talks were to focus on Israel's contentious West Bank
separation barrier - which the Palestinians oppose - and
Palestinian efforts to persuade militant groups to halt
attacks on Israelis, Palestinian officials said.
Efforts to bring the two men together have faltered since
Qureia took office in October, and the road map has been
stalled for months. But Qureia has come under pressure
recently from the United States and Egypt, a key mediator
between Israel and the Palestinians, to agree to a meeting.
The road map aims for an independent Palestinian state,
alongside Israel, by 2005.
«This is maybe their last opportunity to implement the
road map,» a senior Israeli official, speaking on
condition of anonymity, said of a possible summit.
A top security adviser to Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat
on Wednesday accused the United States of «blackmailing»
the Palestinians.
Jibril Rajoub said the Americans have threatened to
disengage from the peace process unless the Palestinians
arrest those responsible for an October bomb blast in Gaza
that killed three Americans traveling in a diplomatic
«You know that the Americans stopped their involvement
waiting for the results of the investigation,» Rajoub told
foreign journalists. «I think that this is blackmail.»
American officials have said they are disappointed with
the lack of cooperation by Palestinian security forces in
the search for the perpetrators.
Sharon has said repeatedly in recent weeks that he plans
to take unilateral steps in the West Bank and Gaza -
dismantling some settlements, redeploying troops and
imposing a boundary - if there is no progress on the road
map in the coming months.

Sa ne bucuram, atunci: Romania tiganeasca - de SB_one la: 24/03/2004 13:43:08
(la: Jena de a fi roman? - Andrei Vartic)
Romania tiganeasca

In timp ce oficiali romani incearca refacerea imaginii Romaniei in

conflictelor in care sint implicate minoritatile.
cercetatorilor, studentilor, oficialitatilor publice,
jurnalistilor". Evident, Romania, integrata in capitolul "Tari post-
rrome. Studiul a fost prezentat atit unor importante institutii
In urma unui e-
rau de aflat daca sta cineva (si daca da, cine) in spatele acestui
Autorii studiului sint: Monty
G. Marshall, Anne Pitsch si Ted Robert Gurr.

Manipulare si dezinformare

La prima rasfoire a studiului, frapeaza datele prezentate cronologic
despre Romania, in raport cu situatia minoritatilor din tara
noastra.
publica internationala a aflat despre Romania ca, in martie
omorite (?! - n.n.)".
autoritatilor.

("Social Democracy Party of Romania") sau numele unor legi
("Romanian Education Law").
Or, daca

Azi NU mai e nevoie sa te ascunzi, cel putin in USA,unde multi si folosesc expresia:
"I Got out of the closet".
Walt Whitman(marele poet american),Oscar Wilde,Rupert Everett,Ian McKellen

Pe scurt,NU -i condamnam pt.orientarea lor sexuala, dimpotriva sintem convinsi ca au drepturi ca oricine altii si ca ar trebui sa fie lasati in pace sa-si duca viata lor personala.

Daca as locui intr-o zona mai cu impuscaturi, m-as muta imediat. Daca as vrea sa fiu pregatit pentru alte raufacaturi (hoti, kidnapping of children, etc), mi-as lua ciine in casa.

From this and other messages you seem to be a nice guy, and I appreciate the frankness of your own story dar ma indoiesc de intelepciunea destainuirii anumitor detalii.

Numai bine,
